I think that Guitar Hero and Rock Band are creating the interest. After playing Rock Band, I had the urge to go play on my drum pad for a while. Lately, I have become more and more interested in the idea of picking up the drums again. I can see why people would think that the games would take away from the amount of people playing the actual instruments, but it is nothing in comparison. Playing an actual song on the drums is MUCH more rewarding than playing one on the game.

The electric guitar is generally considered a pop music instrument and is used mainly for pop music, however, there are many electric guitarists who perform classical pieces are are heavily influenced by classical musicians particularly the violinists Paganini and Vivaldi.

What are some of your thoughts about this instrument, its sound and whether it is suited to classical music?

Once one accepts the theremin and ondes martenot as classical instruments, there’s no reason in principle why an electric guitar cannot be.

However, to the best of my knowledge, very little classical music has been written for it, and while I’m pretty sure Berlioz would have liked it (particularly the volume!) the typical sound of an electric guitar doesn’t fit into the natural sound of most classical music.

I doubt a jellyfish could hear the instruments like we do, but they may be able to feel the vibrations or resonance created by these instruments.

I need the difference between piano, guitar, drum, and other musical instruments of olden times and the present times!
IF POSSIBLE please give me the URLs also!!
VERY URGENT!!

You used to have to say "Hath ye seen thy olde bridge? has any soul seen ye bridge?"

To start with the piano is a modern instrument, look at all those parts. The "olden" instrument of the piano would be the harp (once again take a look inside.)

Electronics and amplification is the major difference, Also the science of sound has been worked out so when they’re constructing something like a guitar or violin, they no longer need to guess how it will sounds before it is finished.

Hi,

I am an amateur piano and autoharp player and have been reading music for about 36 years. Today I discovered a term, possibly specific to stringed instruments and tuning, that I have never heard before, namely, an "h string". This came up in a discussion with a German musician and I have never encountered it before. Can someone please tell me what the h-string is on a double bass, guitar, zither or piano?

Thanks in advance,

Musical but still confused…

H is the seventh degree in the diatonic scale. It was formerly used by the Germans for B natural.

A seventh is an interval embracing seven diatonic degrees of the scale. The term is also given to a chord which includes the interval of a seventh whether major, minor, or diminished.

I personally would choose guitar because it is good to get to grips with using multiple strings as soon as possible, while on a piano all the notes are in a straight line!

Other than that, it’s up to you and how you like to play!

also which is the easiest to play?

Since I play all of the referenced instruments, in my opinion guitar is easiest since to play a chord all you do is hold down the right strings and strum. Bass is harder since there are no chords and you sometimes play counter to what the guitar is doing. Drums is probably the next hardest. Contrary to what everyone seems to think it’s more than your hands, it’s your feet as well. Each hand and foot are doing something completely different. This takes a lot of discipline to get right and a lot of practice. Piano is probably the hardest since each hand is doing something completely different. To go even further think about this, literally each finger is doing something completely different and independent of the other.

Even with tab, you need an understanding of music. I would at least get educated on the basics: Time signatures, note symbols/duration, simple theory, key signatures. It will be very helpful in situations where you’re jamming with a band and someone wants you to play a particular note(s) in a specific 4/4 rhythm – you’re going to look like an idiot if you can’t.
